It is a lyrical poem with nine stanzas consisting of two lines each.įrom the very start of the poem, Iqbal is praising his country India – Hindustan. This poem was quoted by The former Prime Minister of Indian Manmohan Singh in his 1st Press Conference. This was set to music in 1950 and was sung by the famous Indian Singer Lata Mungaishkar. It was translated into English by Khwaja Tariq Mahmood who translated many poems of other famous poets too. Stanzas (1), (3), (4), and (6) of the poem was taken by the Hindus as their National Anthem.
